service · bouncer (bnc)

Never miss a line, even when you're gone.

A bouncer keeps a connection to IRCForever open around the clock. Your client disconnects; the bouncer stays joined. When you come back, every message that happened while you were away is replayed in order.

why run one

Presence is the whole point of IRC. A bouncer protects it.

Close your laptop without leaving the channel. Keep one stable identity across every device. Read what you missed instead of guessing.

always-on

Stay connected 24/7

The bouncer holds your seat in every channel so you never flood join/part the moment your wifi blinks.

replay

Full message playback

Reconnect and the bouncer replays everything said while you were away, with timestamps, in the right order.

one identity

Same nick everywhere

Phone, laptop, shell — attach from any client and it's one continuous session, not three ghosts of you.

detach

Multi-client attach

Leave a session running at home and attach from the road. Detach without disconnecting from the network.

tls

Encrypted end to end

Client-to-bouncer and bouncer-to-network both ride TLS. Your conversations stay between you and the network.

push

Highlight notifications

Get pinged on mentions and private messages even while detached, so the important lines find you.

connecting to your bouncer

Point your client at the bouncer, not the network.

Once your bouncer is approved you'll get a host, port and password. Add it to your IRC client as a new server using your account credentials.

Server / port

bnc.IRCForever.org · port 6697 · TLS on

Server password

Format username/network:password

Manage it in-chat

It's ZNC: /msg *status for status, /msg *controlpanel help to change settings.

Your bouncer runs on ZNC. Exact host, port and password are confirmed on approval — these are the standard defaults.

get one

Request a bouncer in three steps.

Requests go to managebot, which runs automated anti-abuse checks — email verification, IP & reputation, account-farming correlation — and approves low-risk requests instantly. Borderline ones are escalated to staff. One account per person; the whole flow happens in chat.

step 01

Ask managebot

In #IRCForever, send !bnc <username> <email>. The bot creates your ZNC account in a held state and emails you a verification code.

step 02

Verify your email

Click the link in the email, or send !verify <code> in chat. That confirms the address and kicks off the automated checks.

step 03

Get connected

Low-risk requests are approved on the spot; borderline ones go to staff. Once approved, point your client at the bouncer using the username and password you chose.

Fair use. One account per person. Don't share passwords or accounts — see the network rules.
